Weekend Coffee Share

Well, hello!!  It's so good to have the time to visit with you once more.  Life got a little out of control for awhile.  

Come on in where it is cool.  It has been so hot here in Texas!  You say, "How hot is it?"

That's why I think we'll have some iced coffee today. 

Doesn't that look refreshing!  I found this image and a yummy recipe by Domestic Goddess on Food.com.  Very similar to how I make mine.  I use fresh brewed coffee so I can use my Folgers's Half Caff.  I switched to it a couple of years ago, so I could have my caffeine without over indulging.

Let's take our drinks outside under the shade of the pecan tree.  There's a sweet little breeze blowing this morning. 

So, to the reason I have been so absent on Saturdays. Well, to tell the truth, for the first couple of weeks in July, I was just blown away and in shock from the things I was seeing and hearing online.  


Then I spent a Saturday taking Hannah shopping. She made out like a bandit!  My girl is practical.  We went to Ross's and she found five adorable new tops there.  Also picked up a new swimsuit top to go with her swim shorts.  Then we stopped by a Goodwill store that we know gets a lot of high end, gently used merchandise and she picked up three new pairs of jeans.  New wardrobe:  $95  A day with Hannah: priceless.  

That very next day, I ended up taking Pete to the hospital after church.  Severe stabbing chest pains and some shortness of breath and a severe headache on his right side.  He had also been extremely dizzy and having some of his "blind spells", too.  They kept him two days.  Once again, his heart checked out all okay.  They checked his arteries this time, as he has had these symptoms recurrently for years.  The cardiologist said his arteries were lovely.  So, he came home, still hurting and with a two week recovery time from the procedure.  

While we are all very thankful and grateful his heart keeps checking out good considering all of the family history, we are stumped as to what to do about the recurring chest pain.  He is supposed to have sinus surgery in the near future to fix a deviated septum and rinse out all the crud in his sinus cavities. We are so hoping that will solve most of the headaches, dizziness and blind spells.  

I myself, have fought off a summer cold and recently been having issues with my blood pressure.  Some days I've just preferred to sleep in and some I just felt too dreadful to sit and stare at a computer screen.  Looks like a visit to my doctor is in order in the very near future.

My son has been home from South Texas and I've enjoyed spending some time with him and his whole little family.  They are very near closing on a piece of land and a home up here in the woods, not too far from us. I'm very proud and happy for them.  Glad they are getting off the side of that little highway they live on.

And of course Baby Ruth is amazing!  She told me recently that I was her "bestie". You don't know how it touched my heart to hear my grand baby say Maw-maw was her best friend.  Or at least one of them.



Well, I've also been very lapse in visiting others in these past few weeks, so forgive me if I go in and get ready to start catching up.  You're welcome to enjoy the quiet as long as you like.

Weekend Coffee Share

Come on in.  The coffee is good and fresh.  I only got up thirty minutes ago.  Didn't sleep in as I'd lain on one side all night and woke with it feeling all sore and achy. 

I had a lovely Sunday last weekend.  The girls came over after church, Candi & Baby Ruth.  Little mama had been running the roads so much finishing up school and other things I hadn't seen my Hazil Ruth in almost two weeks!  Did you know she graduated?  Candi, that is.  She's now a real licensed nail professional.  I'm proud of her.  Now she has something to fall back on.  She has something to generate income for her to go to college.  

I really enjoyed Sunday afternoon.  We watched a movie, spent some time in the pool, I cooked a good supper and I got to have lots of my grand baby smiles, hugs and kisses.

We had tropical storm Bill this week.  Wasn't much of an event for any of us personally.  No damage, no flooding. Even managed to miss most of the heavy rain on my commute.  Funny how it came to shore in South Texas, right under where Bubba is staying and working, but didn't even rain them out.  The upper high in West Texas, spun all the rain to the East.  Houston had it bad again.  And then a little further East of us had it bad again.   What about you, any fallout from Bill?

I don't mean to be rude, but I need to go get dressed pretty soon.  I'm taking Hannah to town so she can buy some things she's wanted and get her Daddy's Fathers' Day present.  And then I hope to get home and do a little house work.  I know, it's shocking.  What about you, are you ready for Father's Day?

Weekend Coffee Share

My sentiments exactly!  

I have been up about 45 minutes.  We went to bed about one last night and sure enjoyed my morning sleeping in. Now I'm sipping my coffee.  Bonanza is playing in the background, as Pete is watching it in the living room.  I'd say we'd go outside with our coffee, but it was drizzling a little a few minutes ago. Maybe we'll just sit in the kitchen around the table, if you can clear off a spot big enough to sit your cup down.  

Every surface in our home gets cluttered like this. And I go forever without cleaning it off, because it makes me mad.  I'm not the one leaving the stuff everywhere.  Yet, I'm about the only one that ever clears it off.  That's why I never dust.  There's too much crap everywhere to dust.  

Well, enough of that.  You didn't drop by to listen to me gripe.  Work went well enough this week.  I think we got the last snag in our new updating process solved yesterday.  I did have a new account I needed to enter in the system that I didn't get to enter because there were too many questions on it.  One of our newer route managers who had never really written up a new account before did it.  His supervisor will go over it with him and help him fix the issues.  He'll live and learn and do it better next time, I'm sure, as he always does excellent on his other paperwork. 

We had a treat this week at work as well.  Another young route manager recently had a little baby girl and they brought her buy the office after her two week checkup.  She's an absolute doll!  Cutest newborn I've seen since my own and Baby Ruth.

Last night, Pete and I enjoyed relaxing in the pool. We had a really hard and heavy rain shower on my way home yesterday, but that had passed by and soon after twilight the clouds cleared away and the stars came out.  

I see a squirrel on the pole outside my window eating a pecan.  Looks like a red squirrel.  Cute little fellow.

Weekend Coffee Share

Well, hello, there!  Come on in.  The coffee is still hot and fresh, so help yourself.  You know me, I sleep in on Saturdays.  Just poured my second cup and took my meds. 

Isn't it beautiful today?!  I can't believe we've finally had a full week of sunshine here in South East Texas.  Pete and the fellows are supposed to be in from their four day camping & fishing adventure.  Pete didn't really feel like going, but thought what the hay, he might as well be miserable with his friends as miserable at the house.  

Last night, Hannah Bug and I rented all of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and had homemade chocolate malts for supper.  We watched one and a-half movies last night. Will finish that one up when she arises.  I love the character Captain Jack Sparrow as portrayed by Depp.  Always leaves people guessing whether he is brilliantly clever and disguises it with imitation insanity OR if he's a bumbling fool who just has uncanny luck.  I believe and vote for the former.

This afternoon, there is a game day for the youth at church.  Pizza, volleyball, horse-shoes, that sort of thing.  Suppose we'll all try to make it over for that.  Nice day for it.

Things at work have calmed down and begun to line out since all of our recent changes to our procedures.  I'm glad that everything transitioned rather smoothly.  Still calls for me to do a few extra steps in some of my data entry.  Eventually, everything will work around until that isn't necessary, but it will take a rather long time.

Weekend Coffee Share

Yay!  Finally a Saturday morning where I was able to sleep as long as I wanted to and no alarm went off. Come on in and get up a cup of coffee, if you want any this late in the morning.  Right now the sun is shining and it's a beautiful Texas morning.  Lot's of rain in the forecast for the rest of the holiday weekend.  After I chill with my coffee, I've got to do some grocery shopping. 

This past week at work taxed my poor brain, but it was a good week.  We are moving forward with a new plan for processing and building our routes.  We might hit a kink or snag here or there, but overall, I think it's a good plan for us and our customers. When the dust settles over this change, I have a few ideas I want to see implemented.  Got to write up a proposal of sorts for my boss to review and get the conversation started.  In February I started an internal audit of our sales tax exemptions.  Just about to have that project wrapped up.

I heard a local news station talking about this holiday last night on TV.  They said this was the recognized start of summer - actually that is June 21st.  The said this was the biggest boating weekend and did a piece on boating safety.  Number one problem is running out of gas.  But they never said a word about what Memorial Day is. 

People, Memorial Day started as a day to lay wreaths and garlands upon the graves of those who gave their lives in service to this country, protecting her borders, her people, her freedoms.  Honoring them for this supreme sacrifice.  In 2000, a resolution was passed asking us to pause at 3:00pm local time "to remember and reflect upon the sacrifices made by so many to provide freedom for all".  Please don't let this day go by without in some way large or small remembering it's meaning! Me, I try to take flowers to the Veteran's memorial in our town and/or put flags on graves of family members who served. For an excellent post from a Vet's perspective: Got a Letter in the Mail!  

Seems, once again, I've monopolized the conversation.  Let's get another cup. So, what has work been like for you, lately?  How do you honor our fallen hero's on this day?  

Weekend Coffee Share

If we were having coffee, I'd tell you I can't visit for long. Hubby has a big day planned for us.  I put over 17,000 miles on my car each year just commuting back and forth to work. Pete's disabled and can't do all the things he used to do. Back when I was still driving my old Taurus, twice I had trouble and when I phoned home he had to tell me he couldn't come, couldn't help me and I'd have to call someone else.  Thankfully, both times Bubba was working in or near town and was able to help me.  But it must of been the hardest thing Pete has ever done to tell me that!  He'd always been there in my hour of need, before.  

Plus, after he pays my car note each month and our car insurance, there isn't much left over for repairs.  He does that and pays his medical for the most part.  I pay other bills and buy groceries, medicines, etc.  And together we pay our electric bills.  So, he figures that as long as I am still working, he needs to keep me in something that has full factory warranty, and gets the good gas mileage. He has just accepted that we will always have a car note at least until I retire. Part of the warranties on my 2011 Chevy Cruze are about to expire and he has decided it is time to trade up to a low mileage 2014 or 2015 for the same monthly note.  

Now, I totally adore my car.  And I would never ask for anything else in the foreseeable future.  But I see the reason of his thinking.  So, he swung by when he was out and about yesterday and told his guy what we were looking to do. They have a large inventory to choose from right now and told him it was indeed a good time to do it and they should be able to accommodate our desires and our needs.  

So, I had to set my alarm clock on a Saturday!  And I have to cut my coffee time short, because we have an appointment to go try to pick out my next new ride.  

Come back tomorrow if you feel like it.  Bubba is home and I'll be cooking one of his favorite meals after church: meatballs, rice and gravy.    We'll all have plenty of time to visit then.

Weekend Coffee Share

Well, hello!  Come on in. Yes, the coffee is still on, although I have already drank most of it.  I'll make more we we need to.

Forgive the mess.  It's been a hectic week!  Pete had a virus all week. Nothing seemed to help.  He saw his doctor on Thursday and he didn't give him anything to help.  Then, that night he had such awful abdominal pain!  He almost called on ambulance.  I stayed up until 1:30 to make sure he was going to be alright.  He called me a little after noon at work yesterday and said he was going to get a ride to the hospital.  I met him over there as soon as I got everything done that had to be done.  Thankfully, just a virus and he wasn't dehydrated.  (He listened to his wife this time!) They did give him some meds to help him cope.  We got a bag of $1 MickyD burgers on the way home.  

I couldn't sleep in this morning like I like to do on Saturday, as Bug needed to go to the public library to do community service for a class at school.  Since she's just fifteen, I had to run her there and come back.  Will get some things done here, make a grocery list and pick her back up when they close at 1pm.  Promised I'd take her shopping.  So will be a long afternoon.

Pete is still resting.  So please don't turn the stereo up. It's getting hot in here to me.  Let's turn the A/C on and get another cup of coffee.  Sorry, I have run out of creamer. But I do have milk.

Do you have any Mother's Day plans?  I don't really have any. Neither of us have a living mother. (Mama, Hazel)  Bubba has to work today and won't be able to come home this weekend.  It's his birthday!  Can you believe he's 26 already!  Seems it was just yesterday I had him standing on my lap, dancing him to "Wooly Bully".  

I may make church tomorrow, or I may sleep in it.  As a mother, I feel it is my prerogative.  Rest, perhaps some time in the pool if rain doesn't prevent it, and maybe a visit with my sister is all I have planned.  All I really need, for Mother's Day.
