Come on in where it is cool. It has been so hot here in Texas! You say, "How hot is it?"
Seriously, the
hens aren't
laying very much
at all!
And here is me when I get home in the evening.....
That's why I think we'll have some iced coffee today.
Doesn't that look refreshing! I found this image and a yummy recipe by Domestic Goddess on Food.com. Very similar to how I make mine. I use fresh brewed coffee so I can use my Folgers's Half Caff. I switched to it a couple of years ago, so I could have my caffeine without over indulging.
Let's take our drinks outside under the shade of the pecan tree. There's a sweet little breeze blowing this morning.
So, to the reason I have been so absent on Saturdays. Well, to tell the truth, for the first couple of weeks in July, I was just blown away and in shock from the things I was seeing and hearing online.
Then I spent a Saturday taking Hannah shopping. She made out like a bandit! My girl is practical. We went to Ross's and she found five adorable new tops there. Also picked up a new swimsuit top to go with her swim shorts. Then we stopped by a Goodwill store that we know gets a lot of high end, gently used merchandise and she picked up three new pairs of jeans. New wardrobe: $95 A day with Hannah: priceless.
That very next day, I ended up taking Pete to the hospital after church. Severe stabbing chest pains and some shortness of breath and a severe headache on his right side. He had also been extremely dizzy and having some of his "blind spells", too. They kept him two days. Once again, his heart checked out all okay. They checked his arteries this time, as he has had these symptoms recurrently for years. The cardiologist said his arteries were lovely. So, he came home, still hurting and with a two week recovery time from the procedure.
While we are all very thankful and grateful his heart keeps checking out good considering all of the family history, we are stumped as to what to do about the recurring chest pain. He is supposed to have sinus surgery in the near future to fix a deviated septum and rinse out all the crud in his sinus cavities. We are so hoping that will solve most of the headaches, dizziness and blind spells.
I myself, have fought off a summer cold and recently been having issues with my blood pressure. Some days I've just preferred to sleep in and some I just felt too dreadful to sit and stare at a computer screen. Looks like a visit to my doctor is in order in the very near future.
My son has been home from South Texas and I've enjoyed spending some time with him and his whole little family. They are very near closing on a piece of land and a home up here in the woods, not too far from us. I'm very proud and happy for them. Glad they are getting off the side of that little highway they live on.
Easter 2015 |
Well, I've also been very lapse in visiting others in these past few weeks, so forgive me if I go in and get ready to start catching up. You're welcome to enjoy the quiet as long as you like.
Bye, y'all! |

Your granddaughter is a little doll. We're melting down here in south Texas but if your son has been here I guess he told you. Good to hear from you, good luck with the doctor visit and your husband's surgery.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think it is hot all over Texas! Thanks for the well wishes!
DeleteI'm sorry you've had so many unanswered questions regarding Pete's health. I hope that changes and you get some answers soon.
ReplyDeleteWe are melting here in Oregon, too. I hope you manage to stay as cool as you can in the heat!
I suck up lots of A/C. And we have a wonderful shop fan on wheels we use in the yard. And the pool is great. So I manage! You take care too. Remember to hydrate inside and out!
DeleteWhat a time of it you've had! I'm sorry to hear that you and your husband have both been feeling ill, though I'm glad to hear he has so far gotten a clean bill of heart health. Wishing the best as you go forward, and sending lots of positive thoughts to you! (By the by, I know exactly what you mean about the heat---it's awful here in New Orleans right now!)
ReplyDeleteThank you! How sweet.
DeleteWhat a precious little girl! I am so glad you are her bestie! Hope both you and your hubby are on the mend soon. Sinus surgery is no fun! Hope it cools off for all of us soon!
ReplyDeleteYes, Baby Ruth is a real delight! Thank you for the kind wishes.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous little girl. I'm sorry to hear your hubby hasn't been well but glad to hear he's on the mend. I'll try and send you some of the rain outside my window to cool you all off. Its actually a fairly pleasant drizzle so should do the job perfectly. (could I have some sunshine and heat in return?)
ReplyDeleteA weather exchange is a lovely idea! Thanks, Rosie!
DeleteWhat a sweet pic of her! Hope everyone is feeling better and you can get some relief from the heat!
ReplyDeleteHer little mama made those pics. She does quite well. Thank you for your well wishes! We are feeling better, bit by bit.
DeleteYou have been through quite a lot. Sure hope the health issues are under control/solved. At least that little girl's smile is there to cheer you. She's a cutie. This heat is insane. I'm ready to flee the state. The breeze is a hair dryer. Well, sip that iced coffee. I'm going with plain old cold water right now. Take it easy and have a "cool" week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good wishes! Of course, Mawmaw certainly thinks Hazil Bug is a doll. I love to go barefoot when I am home, inside and out. But lately, I have to run across the sunny spots that have little grass or I'll burn my tootsies!
DeleteSorry things have been crazy for you. I hope things now settle down and everyone stays in good health.
ReplyDeleteWell, we've had a nice relaxing weekend, so that's a good start! Thanks Liz!
DeleteThose are the cutest photos of her! I love that iced coffee too. I now put coconut milk in my coffee. Took a bit of getting used to, now I love it.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed the coffee! Coconut milk? Hum. I used to love to put a few drops of almond extract on my coffee before I brewed it. Gives it a nice Amaretto type flavor.
DeleteYour grand daughter is such a treasure. Global warming seems to be affecting the whole planet apparently. Fingers crossed the rains aren't too far off in the distance. I'm sorry to hear about Pete, I understand green juiced vegetables and melons are good for the health.
ReplyDeleteHe's a country boy, so he's big on all vegetables. The only one he doesn't like is English peas, but I can sneak those in on him in a casserole!
DeleteFirst, I want to thank you so much for the review you left on Smashwords! Glad you liked Ten Zany Birds, and I hope your granddaughter does, too! (She's cute!)
ReplyDeleteIt's been hot in Atlanta, too. I've been hibernating inside, where there's air conditioning! Stay cool!
I adore those birds! It's just a precious book. Can't wait to share it with Hazil and she'll love that we can read it on the computer. There is a double review write up in the future for this blog. I want to center it around my experience reading each of them to Hazil the 1st time. :)
DeleteLovely post, Barbara. You've made hanging out at your place sound right nice and the iced coffee looks delicious! Monsoon is generous this year in Arizona so the heat is a little more bearable when you can watch clouds gather all day; promising sweet relief. I do hope they figure out how best to help Pete and yeah, much as I hate to agree, we all need to take care of ourselves - go see your Doc! :-) Happy day~
ReplyDeleteRain chances as storms move through the area this evening! Thank you, Diedre! I'm glad you feel at home in Caneyhead.
DeleteThat iced coffee looks good and sounds like the perfect thing to drink right about now. It is just too hot outside. Your granddaughter is so precious. Thanks for sharing those pictures with us!
ReplyDeleteShe's my delight! Stay cool, Chrys!
DeleteOoh, I love iced coffee in the summertime! I have also been trying to catch up on comments and reading posts, I'm hoping to get to around to more the next few days. It's so cute that your granddaughter's dress matches the flowers she's standing in :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you dropped by Elizabeth and glad you enjoyed the iced coffee! Hazil is in a field of bluebonnets. The Texas State flower.
