I Saw it on Facebook

Yeah, I just couldn't resist this when I saw it.  We've all encountered those people.  Even the smartest of us have those moments when we are trying to follow some line of thinking and our brain is saying "Access Denied!"  But, God bless them, there are some out there that go through life in this state of being. Their lives are a constant string of "here's your sign" moments.

I'm not talking about forgetting to do something, or taking a moment to bring a certain word you want or a name to mind.  Nor am I speaking of trying to learn a very difficult new subject like Latin or quantum physics. I'm talking about not grasping something that should be common knowledge to any average adult.

It can give rise to some very humorous situations or be the source of extreme frustration.  I've experienced both consequences of interaction with this type of individual, but my mind fails me now to recall one of either.

If you have a humorous story to relate regarding this subject, I invite you to share it here in the comments.

  1. Yep, working in retail gave me many of those moments. My favorite? "Where are the batteries?" When we were standing right in front of them. I just pointed (keeping a straight face).

  2. This just happened to me this week and now I can't remember what the subject was. I just remember thinking you're a grown-up and you don't know this.

  3. Just stand at the checkout counter and hand a kid a twenty and the change to allow a $5 bill to come back. The hamster wheel has problems churning on that one

    1. Oh, my gosh, you are SO right!!! These new fangled cash registers have made idiots of cashiers. And NO ONE counts your change back correctly anymore. In fact, they hardly ever even count it at all. Just hand you a wad of bills with the receipt on top. Bad business!

  4. With some of them, the wheel isn't even turning. Bless their hearts... those stupid fools. (In the South, the second part of that isn't said, but it's implied.)

  5. Oh my goodness yes!! I am a corporate trainer. I usually have at least one person who fits that description perfectly. How do they get thru life as long as they have with head in the clouds?

    1. There's one in every crowd, every family. I've known whole families that didn't have a bright bulb in the bunch.

  7. I'm not the only one to do this, but I'm amazed that I EVER did this one. I'm rushing to go to the dentist and talking to my mom on the phone. Frantically, I'm looking for my cell phone. You know...the phone that I am on...

    1. Uh, I think that is a simple case of oldtimers. Like looking for the glasses that are on your face.

  8. The description, "the wheel is turning, but the hamster is dead," just cracked me up!

  9. Sometimes (more often than we like to admit) that person is my darling granddaughter. Sometimes she just doesn't get it!!

    1. Sometimes (though not often) my own sweet, brilliant Hannah has those moments. And once the hamster revives, she feels so embarrassed.

  10. It's like talking to a wall. Then I guess it is since it is Facebook. But, honestly sometimes I just have to look away and say "pfffttt..."

  12. I know a fair few people this could be describing! I agree sometimes it's frustrating, but mostly it's pretty funny, especially when the person in question knows they are like this and becomes part of the joke :)

  13. I read somewhere too much sugar kills brain cells which is why I'm trying to cut back on guzzling chocolate. I'm trying to keep what few brain cells I've got left, fully operational...Ooh the strain, mustn't overload ... LOL.

    1. Hee-hee. I think my chocolate consumption is the least of my worries.
