So, I was Thinking...

My sister gave me one of those calendars that give you a thought for the day and a verse.  The one for Monday said "There are two freedoms --- the false, where a man is free to do what he likes; and the true, where a man is free to do what he ought." (Kingsley)

The false:  A very self centered freedom.  Me.  My way.  What I want, need right now.  The consequences be damned.  No true right or wrong.  A whole wide range of grey area.   Free to cause pain and wreck havoc.  Leading up to a wide path of destruction behind and a very rude awakening in the end.  A heavy load of extra burdens to drag along as a result.  Ending in regret, disappointment.

The true:  Freedom based in caring and morality.  Kind.  Compassionate.  Brave.  What's best for me and everyone involved.  Doesn't go against my conscience, heritage, the law or the Bible.  Pretty much black and white.  Leaving behind everything a little better than it was before, looking forward to a prize.  Fond memories and feeling of accomplishment to carry with you.  Your worth recognized by those who know you.  A satisfied mind.  A content soul.

Maybe it's just me....but seems that the false kind is what is prevalent here in America today.  It's the driving force behind so many hot button political issues.  It's wrapped up in high divorce rates, fraud, greed, pornography, and many other ills.  A cheap imitation of real freedom.

So, I've thought about it and now I leave you to think about it.

In other news, Paul has done it again!!  Posted the links for CarnivAOL, that is.  I submitted the previous entry.  And there are a number of others of all various shapes and sizes.  Exercise your freedom to browse and read this week.

And somehow, Paul and I got to discussing laundry via e-mail.  How hard it can be to keep up with it and all of that.  And that got me wondering:

Where do you go to get clean clothes to put on, most often?

Leave an answer in the comments or email me (bhbner2him@aol.com)  one and I'll post the results.

  1. My clean clothes are hanging in the closet and in dresser drawers. Under and outer clothes. No, my house is not that organized, just my clothes are. LOL. Helen

  3. Barbara- I totally agree with you- it's definately a me me, I I , whatever I want now society.  I find it even in y own life too sometimes, which is hard- I'm trying so hard to teach my son the right freedom, but at 6 and very strong willed- doesn't seem to get it (yet).  Even I can get that way sometimes- hard not to when you grow up with it everywhere!  But Thankfully, I know enough now from God, that it's His way- not mine!  Have a great day!  Carolyn

  4. You have some organized readers, sheesz!  :)   Or, they're the only ones who will admit........   to pulling out clean clothes from piles.   The pile that didn't get put away yet, the pile just out of the dryer (or from the dryer), or the sweater worn once so not yet dirty so left on TOP of the hamper in the bathroom.  :)   Cuz, hey, the rest of life is more important:)   Good to think and ponder sometimes -- Robin

  6. dear Barbara, hi!
    interesting discusion.
I think that the forefathers thought that freedom meant you could do what you had to do and you could think as you wanted.
I think that compassionate actions are needed and very worthwhile!
I get clean clothes of a hook or from the drawer!

  8.          BARBARA, DURING MY FIRST TEENAGE YEARS, IT SEEMED A YEAR WOULD NEVER PASS.
NOT SO NOW IN THE 8TH DECADE. THE YEARS ARE FINISHED SO QUICKLY.
WHEN WE SEE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS, THANKSGIVING ISN'T FAR AWAY.
FINISHING A SHOWER, REACH IN THAT CARDBOARD BOX IN THE CLOSET AND SCRAPE BOTTOM.
IT SEEMS ONLY A COUPLE DAYS AGO THE CLEAN LAUNDRY WAS CAST INTO THAT BOX.
NOW GO TO THE HAMPER HOLDING THE SOILED CLOTHING AND FIND THE CLEANEST AND REMEMBER TO DO THAT LAUNDRY TODAY.      sam

  9. Enjoyed this entry...I felt like you had feelings of serious intent when you wrote this....calling it like it is....I think the "freedom" to do as we chose, has created a global atmosphere of isolated consciousness.....its like one man for hiimself living in so many....The extention of community, your neighbor, etc., is slowly dwindling away....We can hit another human because we say we are offended or because we want attention....We can rob and steal so we have nice clothes on or the nice house because we want attention....We want to feel important at all costs...I call it a "Reality TV Generation." Unfortunately, I dont beleive it will get better. The conscious is going away and then we have nothing left. -Raven
