Our local small town is going all in for the Rock Hunt fad. If somehow you've missed it, people paint rocks with a simple message or cheerful picture and leave them in public areas for others to find. Those who find the rocks which are tagged on the back with local group of origin are then encouraged to post a picture on the corresponding Facebook page. Then they may re-hide the rock or keep it if it brings them joy to do so. Personally, I think there is more joy to be found in hiding them again.
I took Hannah to get a copy of her Social Security card today at the Beaumont Administration Office and found this one in front of where I parked. It is a precious Keebler Elf one with the message Living Small on it. My photo does not do it justice! I was tickled to learn it was part of the Silsbee group and posted it's picture on their Facebook page.
While there, I found that a rock garden has been set up at the Silsbee Public Library by some civic minded individuals. When preparing to write up this post, I found that the movement is being praised as a way to get young people into art, exploring outdoors and sharing a little love and joy. I also found a website for The Kindness Rocks Project which appears to be the origin of this craze that is fast going worldwide.
All around, a lot of positivity surrounding this simplistic trend, with all ages getting swept up in it.
Have you found a rock? Did you post a picture? Did you re-hide it? Have you painted any?
Barbara
so nice to know, that there are people who care... was glad to read about the kindness project, idea sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela! I knew it was the type of thing you adore. Perhaps you should start a group, paint some rocks and leave them by the trees you photograph.
DeleteI've heard of this, but I haven't seen it in my area. Maybe I should start a group doing this :)
ReplyDeleteSure! I'd check online and on Facebook to make sure there was not already a local one, but I love that idea. You could share it with the students you sub with.
DeleteI was invited to a Kindness Facebook group. I joined and have thought little of it. But what a great idea since you have explained it. I would hide the rock again.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun. I do plan to re-hide my rock. Just planning where I want to.
DeleteI'd never heard about this until now. But I don't do Facebook, so I guess I wouldn't have.
ReplyDeleteI heard about it at church first. Then from the kids. Just keep your eyes open for a rock. Even if you didn't want to make a Facebook to post it, you could share it at the kindness website. Either way, you could get in the fun simply by re-hiding it.
DeleteStar Trek is my rock. Its fair to say the titanium in the primary and secondary hulls has the same dynamic strength you would expect to find anywhere within igneous rocks in our universe and who knows? who knows what mysteries lie beyond...
ReplyDeleteYes, who knows. You should paint a Star Trek series of rocks to hide at a convention.
DeleteI hadn't heard of this, but it certainly sounds like a nice trend. I wonder who thought of it.
ReplyDeleteThe link to the Kindness Project explains who and why.😉
DeleteWow....sounds interesting! Will try to start this for the kids in our community during the autumn break :)
ReplyDeleteI have not yet found a rock, but I keep meaning to make and hide one. I'm part of a local Facebook page that does this, and shares the rocks they create. I think it's a marvelous thing. I just love anything positive like this.
ReplyDeleteI did read where they recommend acrylic paints. It seems to be something all ages are equally into, which I think is one of the best things about it.
DeleteHow fun. I've heard of this other places as well. Going to have to try it I think!
ReplyDeleteI think you should, Janet!
DeleteI have not heard of this trend. I must check around to see if we are doing it here in my hometown!
ReplyDeleteSearching on Facebook and at the Kindness sight are two ways to check for a group in your town. Or you could start one!
DeleteI've seen a couple of friends painting rocks and hiding them. I haven't so far found any and haven't had the gumption to paint any. It seems like a nice little thing to do if you have the time.
ReplyDeleteI am not very artsy, so I doubt if I get into painting. But it is nice to find, share and hide.
DeleteI'm out of the loop. I didn't even know about the trend. Your elf is cute! Not sure if it's come to NYC, but I'm on the lookout.
ReplyDeleteHey, that's the spirit! There could have been one placed in the flowers you posted. Keep your eyes peeled!
DeleteHaha we used to do this once a year back in school when I was younger. Sadly the tradition hasn't continued for the kids these days. I think it's time for a revival :)
ReplyDeleteWhat's that saying, "there is nothing new under the sun?" I had honestly never heard of it until this year. It really seems to be thriving, so you should jump into the action.😉
DeleteSorry just now seeing this. The rock hunting was in this little village I am living in last year. I came across a few by accident myself.
ReplyDeleteGreat things starting you. I have understood your matter former to and you are just too wonderful. I really like anything you have developed now, surely like anything you are saw and the way in which you about it. You style it enjoyable and you silent care for to keep it smart.
