A New Approach to Purpose

Been thinking about this blog.  Considering what direction I want to take. Finding it hard to think of boxing myself into one direction, yet at the same time desiring to clarify my purpose.  This is the conclusion I have reached.

I will be blogging in line with the title of my blog, primarily.
There will be posts with the preamble; Life.  My life, life in general, life lessons, life events, etc.
There will be posts with the preamble:  Faith.  Christian values, spiritual insights, praise & thanksgiving.
There will also be posts with the preamble:  Caneyhead.  These may be about something that occurred in our neck of the woods, pictures from our life, things more on a personal level than a philosophical one.
And just because I enjoy them and it appears most of my readers do too, I will still be posting "I Saw it on Facebook" entries as well.

Being a personal blog, I may decide to occasionally stray from this design, but will strive to keep each entry made in one of these veins.  Hopefully. this will keep me posting a variety of entries and keep me true to the purpose and title of my blog.  The bonus for my readers is that you will know up front if an entry is one that interests you the most.

It is my hope that you will join me as I sort out the purpose of my posts.

Do you ever re-evaluate the purpose of your blog or the direction you want to take?

  1. YES, I sure do! I started PS Annie! out to be primarily a genealogy blog. It morphed into something else and was abandoned as parts of my life fell apart. I woke it back up, but it still hasn't become primarily a genealogy blog. So, I started PS Annie! #2 on WordPress and all that I am posting there are genealogy/family history posts. McClendon Villa on WordPress started out to be a variety of things and I think it serves its purpose well. It is a good place to post my poems and artwork, too. I'll get everything sorted out eventually. There's just too much going on right now to be able to give anything the focus that it needs.

Best wishes to you as you fine tune your purpose. :)

  2. Your blog sounds like it is headed in a good direction. I have never really gotten a focus on where I am going with mine.
I got a chuckle out of "I saw it on Facebook". Even though I waste a bit of time on Facebook, I love to scroll the newsfeed. I am ready for something besides politics. It has taken the lightheartedness out of Facebook.

  3. If it's in the direction of your passions, then it's the best direction to go. You know I'll always visit.
The basic focus of my blog is the same, but I've had to reevaluate and refocus a few times.

    1. Thank you, Alex! Twelve years ago when I started out, I asked myself "What will you be writing about here?" And I answered my life & my faith. Sounds simple enough, yet sometimes I get side tracked.

  4. Its good to evaluate every so often the whole nature of blogs. I like how you laid out your focus on the direction you want to go with your blog. I find myself these days reading the same amount of blogs, but writing in my only every 2 weeks or so.

    1. I know there are "blog gurus" who say one must post daily. I say, bi-weekly, monthly, daily....whatever amount. Just keep posting if at all possible.

  7. Nice to see you back again. My blog has kind of folded up with readers losing interest. We've aged with health problems. Part of the ranch has sold and John's lease won't be going on much longer after so many years, he only has about twenty cows left. His son mostly takes care of them and John doesn't care.

    1. Prayers for better health for both of you! I'm sure it is hard for John. Guys who have always been busy find it hard to relax. I, for one, will still be visiting your blog!

    2. I have through the years. It's now books, coffee, travel and life in New York City. Gives me a lot of latitude and it's still fun.

  8. Yeah, I have had times when I rework how I post to my blog. I think we get bored after a while, stuck in our ruts or not, and things get stale. It's good to change things up a bit.

    1. I think that is a real concern when you are blogging all the time, Liz. For me, since I've abandoned it for so long, I want to be semi-structured. Don't want to just spin my wheels instead of writing.

  9. There are days I don't know what to post on my blog. I just keep going with it though.

Your link works. During the Challenge use your individual post link instead of your main blog link and you'll be set!

    Example:
    Use: http://lifefaithincaneyhead.blogspot.com/2017/03/a-new-approach-to-purpose.html

    Instead of: http://lifefaithincaneyhead.blogspot.com/

    Thank you!
