Well, here I am playing with this new fangled equipment we got in the recent updates.  Things have been interesting around here to say the least.  We've been putting up peppers and making Bread and Butter pickles.  Right now the garden is giving us potatoes, green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, yellow squash, zucinni squash, eggplant and a variety of peppers.  Okra is just starting.  Will cook the first cutting tonight.

Emmy horse still doesn't have colt.  I've said it before and I'll say it again:  her name is Immaculate Conception but I believe it should be Perpetually Pregnant.

There has been a steady flow of kids of all ages.  Coming to visit.  Coming to fix trucks.  Coming to swim.  Put to work in the yard or garden.  Fed at the table.

Pete's latest idea of leaving off all sugar and caffeine hasn't really done him any good.  Still suffering.  Planning to make another trip to the doctor.  Thinking of trying a chiropractor.  Any prayers are very welcome.

A lady who is much the local history buff and a gentleman friend of hers from Beaumont were out in the woods Monday near our home marking the old wagon trail that used to run through there.  Somewhere along the way they got turned around and mixed up.  They decided to split up and each try to find the road or pipeline.  She made it out.  He didn't.

Park rangers and locals, including Bubba and his friend Brandon.  Made sweeps through the area to no avail Monday evening.  A helicopter search was made just before dark.  Nothing.  Poor man, over 60, in those woods with the mosquitoes, various snakes and muggy weather.  Next day, a more organized search by what looked to be about 30 ranger types was conducted.  Word is they found him okay, but worn.  Took to be checked out at the hospital.

At workyesterday, we sat for three hours with no electricity because someone ran headlong into a pole that shut of the power and killed several stop lights in the area.  As far as I know there were no injuries.  And thankfully for us the electricity was back on before things got too hot.

I haven't waxed very contemplative lately.  Been in a soak up the moment and enjoy myself mode.  But you know me; never can tell what will get me pondering, reflecting and posting.

Will continue praying for Pete. At the moment I'm doing what you're doing: soaking up the moment. It's the best way.

  4. Barbara you can go back to the classic way of putting your pictures in. After you get them in the AOL thingy there is a drop down menu to do the classic or the new way. That is if you want to. That is great about you now having veggies. I hope Pete soon gets better, prayers going up for him. I am glad they found the lost man. Helen

  8. Glad they found the gentlemen!  I wish I loved vegetables.  I mean I love the way they look, so colorful, but I never acquired a taste for them - much, lol.  I'm improving with age, so maybe there is still hope for me.

Sounds like you've got your hands full in a good way Barbara!  The garden sounds wonderful- I wish I could get a crop in like thta, but will let it lie from the fire this year.  Next year things should be more fertile.  I'll keep Pete in my prayers for sure, and hope he feels better soon.  I'm glad they found the lost man- that can happen around here too, although never heard of it happen yet.  Can't wait until Perpetual gives birth soon lol!  Have a wonderful rest of the week!  Love Carolyn :)  http://journals.aol.com/lifesabench6/Noappologies-Biblicalperspect/  PS- you know someone from the south lives on a farm when they say "puttin' up the peppers!  My in laws say that a lot too!  ()'s

  12. Listening to you write about your Garden makes me wish I had put in a veg. garden this year as well. Unfortunately my hands have been full dealing with everything else around me, there wouldn't of been time for one. Thankfully I have mostly perennials in the Flower garden or I fear that wouldn't of came to be this year either. Will keep Pete in my prayers on the smoke! Sorry to hear about the gentleman you was lost near you. Thankfully they found him unharmed. (Hugs) Indigo

  14. Garden vegetables, yum! I love bread and butter pickles. One of my neighbors makes me a jar every year. Your homeplace is busy with family stuff... what a great place to be. I would love to be your neighbor and stop in for a spell. I hope whatever is ailing Pete, he is able to find comfort and peace. Hope the chiropractor works. Will keep him in my prayers, Barb. You don't have to be contemplative every day. Sometimes you have to just sit back and observe, and be in the moment. Thanks for visiting me lately and leaving comments. Now that school is out, I will be more availabe for posting and visiting myself. bea

  16. Wow, sounds like a great garden and great place to live, I love the country.  Simple yet very hard work.  I love all those things you are growing, had them all in my garden when my children were young.  Nothing touches fried okra, rolled in corn meal and fried in bacon grease.  Those were the days.
I'm glad that the man was found.  Thank you for sharing your little part of the world with us.  Got to love that country living.  God bless.

  17. BARBARA,
WHEN READING AND THINKING OF BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES, FRIED OKRA, SQUASH (HOWEVER COOKED), SO HUNGRY NOW.
         REALLY MISS HAVING A GARDEN.
IT'S ENOUGH TO MAKE AN OLD FARM BOY CRY TO SEE TOMATOS ONE DOLLAR EACH. OTHER COMPARABLE PRICES. HOW I LOVED TURNIPS, PULL ONE AND SIT IN THE SHADE AND EAT IT WHILE GIVING THE MULES A REST.
AT LUNCH TIME GO IN AND SMELL THAT WONDERFUL AROMA OF MOTHER'S KITCHEN.
IN OUR STORM CELLAR WERE SHELVES WITH DOZENS OF GLASS CANNING JARS OF VEGETABLES AND FRUIT. CANNED CHICKEN MEAT AND PORK TOO.
NO ELECTRICITY SO NO DEEP FREEZER SO WE CANNED THE MEAT WITH THE HUGE PRESSURE COOKER.
DAD CLAIMED FOR MEDICINAL PURPOSES HIS KEGS OF WINE WERE NECESSARY AND ALSO STORED IN THE STORM CELLAR.
I WONDER IF YOU USE THE SAME RECEIPE FOR BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES AS BACK WHEN MOTHER PREPARED SO MANY JARS OF THEM ?
I HAD BEEN KNOWN TO EAT A JAR OF THOSE PICKLES AT ONE 'SETTING'.
                                                                                                   sam
