Well now; seems I need to do some elaboratin' and explainin' of some terms, slang and dialect that is primarily Texan, redneck or oilfield. My new friend across the pond pointed that out to me.
You use a lot of expressions I do not understand like hoopie. Is pumper something to do with water? There definitely is a language difference between the U.S.A and the U.K. lol
I checked Microsoft, but they had no downloads for my language. So here I am creatin' a dictionary that can help ya'll understand my lingo. I will put the link in my sidebar for easy reference and add new terms as they are used or questions arise.
Hoopie: A vehicle whose soul purpose is to go thru mud, boggs and woods. Usually created from an old truck, jeep, bronco or volkswagon; the hoopie must have either a lift-kit to make it higher or really tall tires with tread for the mud (superswampers, tractor tires, etc) or perferably both. Optional equipment is: doors, lights, horns, brakes, inspection stickers, license tags, heaters, etc. &n
I hold up my hand, I am that person from across the pond who did not understand your Texan expressions lol. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post an explanation of those terms. What a great idea, thank you!!!! If I ever use a typically British expression that you do not understand, please ask my friend. Have a great day and thank you once again

I knew what a pipeline was, thought a hooper was a 4 wheeler ATV. Didn't have any idea what a pumper was though. Annnnd I live in the US LOL. Thanks for explaining those terms. Helen
ReplyDeleteI work for a drilling rig company in California and it seems like the guys I work with have a language all their own. I get confused often at some of the things they say. Thanks for explaining.

ReplyDeleteLOL...WHat you call a hoopie..we call hoopty's here in KY!! HAHA..Pretty close!
ReplyDeleteOh this is a great idea. Reminds me of one time we had company from a state up north. The men were outside and the two ladies seemed a little bored there in the farm house with me so I suggested we take a walk out to the tank. They looked at each other and then at me, then it dawned on me. That is what we call a pond. We all had a good laugh. Paula
ReplyDeleteI think alot of use needed that dictionary. I was going to ask what a hoopie was
