#AtoZChallenge - Perspectives: Underwear

Okay, underwear is an odd topic.  Butt But, pardon me, while I explore the topic and lay my views on you.

I am pro underwear.  After working for a uniform rental company for 12 years, I can attest that you can tell who does and doesn't use underwear.  Those who go commando have garments develop what is referred to as crotch rot.  The garments simply wear out in the crotch area.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand the freedom of being under garmentless.  I loved to skinny dip in our pool.  I sleep naked.  But in every day life, one needs an undergarment to absorb moisture, to keep your clothes out of the cracks and crannies.

I understand the desire for sexy, silky, alluring underwear.  That can be fun!  In the right place, at the right time, but for plain old every day adventure, nothing beats breathable, bleachable cotton.  And now days you can get it in all shades, prints, textures, styles.  It's a beautiful thing.

And while we are on the subject, who in the world actually enjoys wearing thongs?!  That's like having a continual wedgie!  I've got a pair or two that go with little gowns for romantic evenings, but you could not pay me enough money to wear one all day long.

So, am I a disjointed old fuddie-duddie, or do you share my underwear observations?  Have you gone commando?

Barbara

  1. Back in my piping days, when we wore kilts, it was normal for us to go "wi' nae trews," as they say. I learned after a while that can be quite uncomfortable because of the chafing, so many of us took to wearing gym shorts underneath. The best solution, it turns out, was close-fitting undershorts that extended to above the knee, like baseball players wear.

Probably more than you wanted to know...

  2. I totally agree with you. Cotton is perfect, especially for Indian weather. The rest look great in ads, wonderful to wear for an hour or two but not a full day thing!

  3. Cotton is awesome. At least we don't have to wear the underwear in the picture ;-) Happy A-to-Z-ing.

  6. Because of our intense humidity, cotton is practical, especially during summer.
However, a dash of lingerie is a good pick-me-upper...

  7. Enjoyed your perspectives, put a smile in my day! Cotton is the best for the tropics, silk and all fancy stuff okay when you know they're coming off shortly :) but not for everyday use. Inside the house all bets are off, but never gone out without underwear... But also thankful we don't have to wear what the lady in the pic is wearing, phew!

  8. LOL! This is a great post! I'm pretty fond of basic, boring cotton myself. When my daughter went into 5th grade and had to wear a uniform...I may have created a monster by telling her she could wear pretty underwear. And get this... now she ~dances~ wearing thongs, like at competitions!! Aw hell no!

    1. Glad you enjoyed it! Competitive uniforms get skimpier all the time.

  9. I couldn't agree more. I used to work for a bank in Philadelphia and we had this girl in our office that was the subject of much conjecture. In the morning if you happen to be walking behind her down the city streets from your train, there was a whole lot of jiggle going on. She obviously was either wearing a thong or nothing. Later in the office she clearly was wearing full panties. Word was that her significant other required her to have that certain look but she changed once she arrived at the office.

  10. LOLOL I had to laugh at your thong comment! My husband once said, "How in the world can women wear those things?"

  11. Never wore a thong even in my younger days. I like cotton and a thin panty liner. Can you tell I'm old?
