#AtoZChallenge - Perspectives: Interests

Each of us has their own interests.  Yet, each of us can find we share interests with others.  Today I'm going to talk about some things that interest me, and I'm excited to discover how many we may share.

In a work setting, I love numbers and making things balance.  I like to know whatever I am involved in well, so that I can do it correctly; but that also feeds into my other interest:  I like to provide people with accurate information.  I enjoy being helpful.

Away from work, my interests lay more in simple pleasures than anything.  I like sitting outside at certain times of the day, enjoying the beauty around me.  I love a good fire outside at night.  I like good conversation.  I also enjoy several card games and I adore a good game of Forty-Two (dominoes).

I like to read.  I find it hard to describe what I like to read, but I know it when I find it.  I also enjoy good movies of many types.  Some of my favorites are classics, especially the ones that are funny or lighthearted.  (Think Rock Hudson & Doris Day).

I've also always enjoyed the water.  I am almost always up for going swimming or simply floating and relaxing in the water.

A good meal at a good restaurant with someone I like to talk to is also a great pleasure to me.  And, since we don't dine out weekly like many  do these days, it's a real treat.

I'll try most anything that appeals to me one time, but if I don't enjoy it, I'll very likely never do it again.

That's my little list of the simple pleasures I enjoy.  Are any of these on your list of interests?  Which do you share with me?  Are there any of mine you dislike?

  1. Those are some lovely, simple pleasures. I also like to sit and take in what's around me. Can't always find the time, which is probably why it's a pleasure!

  2. I love sitting by my pool and listening to the water fountain thats in our spa. I really enjoy reading books and magazines. I like so many different styles. I love love to eat out with friends and family. We share many of the same pleasures. I will say i hate numbers though and anything regarding math. - not my strong suit at all!
How did you get your interests to show on the ipod image? That is so dang clever!

  3. It is like you read my mind. I love all of these things. And I do have a thing about numbers. When the bots started reading my blog, it took a lot of fun out of it. I enjoyed the statistics before the bots.

  4. I too love to sit outside and enjoy the world around me. God did a good job, didn't he? Also country roads. John will say we didn't see anything today (meaning deer, wild turkeys, etc. I answer we saw a country road.

  6. We like a lot of the same things - giving people accurate information, reading, watching movies, enjoying the beauty of creation, playing games (Phase 10, Dutch Blitz, word-type games like Scrabble, Scattergories, Boggle, Taboo...). I also enjoy going to live theatre and the occasional concert. Enjoying your Perspectives series.

  7. I love doing anything outside, and am happiest when I'm surrounded by trees. One of the things that relaxes me (other than reading) is doing logic puzzles. I just can't get enough of them.

  9. History and natural history. What has gone before that has shaped my world and the landscape. Folklore and religion: how people explain things that otherwise we wouldn't understand. Growing things. Doodling with bright colours.

  11. I know what you mean about books. I don't think genre is as important as a good story. I find I'll read anything if the story is good enough (and it's written well enough).

I do love Doris Day & Rock Hudson. Great era for movies.

  12. I have worked with numbers, and enjoyed doing it well, but I still prefer abstacts... ideas, etc. I enjoy a good board game like Scrabble or Monopoly and love playing Words with Friends and Yahtzee online. I agree about simple pleasures... blogging, reading... crochet, going for rides on a cool evening, and especially walking along the edge of the ocean at sunset... but alas we live nowhere near the ocean here in West Texas. I get there as often as possible though. We also love a good dinner, though we eat out much less often than we did when I was working. I suspect we would make great neighbors if you lived close by!
