WARNING!!!!!!

Please, please, please take notice!!!   I received two email today that said they were from AOL Billing.  Said I needed to update my payment method info or my account would be suspended.  I KNOW my info is good.  I KNOW there should be no problem.  Still, I clicked their link to see where it went.  It went to a page that looked like no AOL Billing page I have ever seen.  So I closed that window and contacted Billing directly.  They asked me for the address.  I told them.  They verified that my account info is fine, and that my account is current.  They asked me to send the emails in to TOS.  I did.  But I wanted to go further and warn my friends.

Please, if you receive correspondence asking for credit card info or other personal information DON'T go to their pages or links.  Call AOL Billing or Go to Billing Live Chat for help.  What I received appears below:

Dear AOL Member,
We recently attempted to charge your account and your credit card issuer denied payment to our billingsystem. This usually occurs when billing information is out of date or billing address is incorrect.
In order to keep your service active you must visit AOL's Subscription Service Center.

Failure to update your records will result in account suspension. Please update your records on or before: August 29 , 2006.

Once you have updated your account records your AOL account service will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.

  1. I have had this happen many times  also there is another scam they will email and say  u have to give the last eight numbers of your credit card to aol  by email.  Be aware of that as well.  AOL only asks for four and over the phone.
I hope your message reaches many as i know some who  clicked this on, they steal your information.

    Thanks again

  4. Yes, I get those all the time...I just got a virus on my computer last week. It was a picture of Mother Mary and had one of those things where they said if you dont forward something will happen. I deleted it and when I went back online I couldnt email. The blank white box to type words in was light blue and I couldnt type. So, thats what I get for opening mail when I dont know the sender,,,when will I ever learn, lol

  5. Thanks for the warning Barbara. I would always be suspicious of an email like that, there are some awful scams out there with people trying to get your credit card details.  You cannot be too careful so thanks again for posting this.

  7. Very nasty. I get dozens of bankscam emails every week as well. They can look very, very convincing. Oh, the link may appear genuine, but it actually leads to something Xanga??? Always hover your mouse cursor over suspicious links, or better still: have them disabled until you're sure the email IS genuine.
    Thanks for making people aware!

  15. Ohh I hate those fake phishing e-mails!!!  Now that I have gone to free AOL I am not too worried about them because I know I should have no billing.. but still ppl who are new to the net may be fooled.  Thanks for posting the warning.

    Much Love,
    Mary

  21. I have gotten scams and had my computer hacked when I first went on-line a year and half ago as I was confused about the firewall and disabled one thinking I was told to be the free for one month offering.    I found out I had neither.    Then I went into the chat-rooms and it seemed that I was getting hacked from them.   After a complete format of my hard drive and communicating with Dell I stopped going into chat rooms or message boards and just stayed in the journals.    Since then I have gotten only a few spams and reported them as spam.    It seems I have cured the problem by not going into chat-rooms.     This is just an observation by me.    I have not been on the computer much and am now resting and reading and not feeling well on my feet.     I will get the results of the MRI to my lumbar spine tomorrow and find out what the test has found.     Thank you for visiting my journal and it is about all I can do to visit several journals a day or so.    Best wishes,    mark
