THE PRECIOUS BOOK
Just had to share this! My old Living Bible is falling apart at the seams. There are notes scribbled all through it. And pages from Daily Bread, and other devotionals stuck between it's own pages.
This copy of the Bible led me through my roughest time.....my greatest storm. I love it and as a resource it is beyond measure. This poem immediately put me in mind of It and Him, the Light and the Comfort.
THE PRECIOUS BOOK
Though the cover is worn
And the pages are torn
And places bear traces of tears,
Yet more precious than gold
Is the Book worn and old,
That can shatter and scatter my fears.
When I prayerfully look
In the precious old Book,
As my eyes scan the pages I see,
any tokens of love
From the Father above,
Who is nearest and dearest to me.
This old Book is my guide,
'Tis a friend by my side,
It will lighten and brighten my way;
And each promise I find
Soothes and gladdens my mind
As I read it and heed it each day.
Oh, wonderful, wonder Word of the Lord,
True wisdom its pages unfold,
And though we may read it a thousand times o'er,
They never, no never grow old.
Each line hath a treasure, each treasure a pearl,
That all, if they will, may secure;
And we know that when time and the world pass away,
God's Word shall forever endure.
God's Word is like a deep, deep mine,
And jewels rich and rare
Are hidden in its mighty depths
For every searcher there.

ReplyDeleteVery good entry today. Poem was great & grapics were good. Helen
ReplyDeleteThis entry meant a lot to me. I treasured my very first Kings James Version of the Bible. I received it when I was 26 and like yours, it was full of highlted verses, notes and other things. I had the memory cards from my mom and dad's funeral's with their picture on it and a letter from my first born son telling me he'd gotten baptized, and thanking me for teaching him about the Lord. This precious book got stolen along witih all our things when we were trucking. Of all I lost that day, this hurt the worst.

We never had a "family Bible" I so wish that we had and that people had added to it over the years. I have my own of course but I have never written in it. Your entry reminds me of a song that used to be very popular over here when I was young.
ReplyDeleteThere's a book that my Mother gave me
That I read when the long day is through
And the stories of old, on leaves edged with gold
Guide me whatever I do
For I know in its worn old pages
I shall find piece of mind if I look
For the widsom of all the ages
Is there - in my Mother's book.
Lovely poem. I too have a family bible and as yours it is highlighted and has things in between pages and I also have one from my great great grandfather, this one I store as it is very old. But I cherish them and always will.
ReplyDeleteand as for my bible its falling apart, has notes in it and high lights. I even bought a new one but I still go back to the old one all the time, lol
