I Saw it on Facebook

When I married Pete, I was a person who's feet hit the floor as they slapped the alarm clock off.  I immediately got ready and started my day.  If I had anything at all, I'd make a glass of chocolate milk from scratch.  It wasn't long after we married before Pete requested we start making coffee in the morning.  Well, that was okay, as I liked coffee.  I started making it.  Started having a cup each morning.

Time went on, and I found that between extreme laziness before I had my coffee, and the prospect of cuddling and snoozing, it took two or three alarms before I rose.  After I became a stay at home mom, I found I not only needed a little more coffee to get going, but I had the time to enjoy two or three cups.

Somewhere down the line it became, don't touch me, don't talk to me - leave me entirely alone in the mornings until I have had a cup of coffee or two! When Bubba was an adolescent and Hannah Bug a preschooler, they knew DO NOT GO TO MAMA IN THE BED unless you were bleeding or the house was on fire.

So, I suppose you could say I have taken "procaffeinating" to the extreme.

What about you?  What kind of morning person are you?  Have you changed over time?

  1. I can get up and do what I have to do but I'm not cheerful about it. John wakes up cheerful and it just irritates me when he ask how do you feel today. I usually answer I just work up, I don't know how I feel. He just can't get it to leave me alone for a while. Sometime I drink one cup and sometime none. John doesn't drink coffee period. His Mom used to put Castor Oil in coffee to get it down him. He says he can still taste that Castor Oil in coffee.

    1. I'm with you, Paula! Got to have some time and some java in me before I know what I am....or who I am. ;)
Poor John! Having coffee ruined for him at such a young age.

  2. Nope, not a morning person. And as school starts at 7:30 AM, that's not a good thing. But nowadays it's easier for me to get out of bed than it was when I was a teen. Or in my 20s. Or 30s.

  3. I'm one of those that can "pop" out of bed when the alarm goes off. The proverbial early bird :) Hubby on the other hand is a night owl and it is a struggle for him to get out of bed (but he does). Son also is a night owl and let's just say his high school years were a struggle to get him to school on time. Glad those days are long gone!

    1. I picture you as a morning person! My son was hard to get moving. My daughter has always put herself to bed at a reasonable hour and most always gets up on her own with no problem.

  4. My wife gets out of bed relatively quickly. I don't wake up until I hit the shower. And then I don't fully gain all my senses until I've had my morning energy drink. Fortunately I'm not grumpy, just unresponsive until that time.

    1. It is really hard to picture you ever being grumpy, Alex.

  5. I don't drink coffee, and I'm a person who gets up as soon as the alarm clock goes off. Your experience makes me wonder if the caffeine in the coffee changes a person and makes one addicted to it.

  6. I've never been a coffee person. I'm OJ and a bowl of cereal. But my mom drank tea and you did not start talking or asking her anything until she'd had her cup of tea. Funny. This post brought back that memory of her - stirring in sugar with her spoon.

  7. So not a morning person. Never have been. When I was working my only request was to let me get to my desk and get my coat off. I tried to drink my cup of coffee on the subway. Usually it worked.
