I Saw It On Facebook

Sometimes, I feel very much like this.  Sometimes, I remember my wilder, younger years and want to jump up and do something just like that all over again.  To feel just as free, just as uninhibited.

Then I think of how very much things, times and people have changed and know there is no way to really recapture those times.  Those specific times are gone.

That doesn't mean that I can't still do some things with abandon.  That I can't still do things spur of the moment.  I can still cut up, I can still be silly.  I can still strike out on a new path, if I so desire.

I've always tempered my recklessness with an overarching umbrella of safety and responsibility.  I've always had a sense of how suddenly the wild and fun can turn into tragic and sad.  So, I've always selected my risks carefully, though I've definitely matured as to what is acceptable and what is not.

I've also found, as I get older, that simpler can be as exciting and rejuvenating as complicated and costly.  It's like so many other things in life, it's mostly in how you chose to view it.  What you are willing to invest of yourself. What you chose to value and to cherish.

What about you, do you still let yourself cut loose?

  1. I never cut loose. Maybe I had to grow up to do that.

    1. We may have to make adjustments in how we cut loose, but we can still find ways!

    1. There you go! Another good point! Exactly what constitutes cutting loose varies by the individual, but basically it's doing anything you don't do all the time just because you'll enjoy it.

  4. Besides kitchen dancing or singing without music while doing dishes, cutting loose for me is when I read or write all day; mindless of the hundreds of other things I should be doing. Guilty pleasures typically don't hurt anyone so why not?

  5. I am not one to go crazy, but I think being older I am less rigid in schedules or doing stuff. Just back from vacation and we had plans, but also winged it a lot. Growing older has been "freeing".

    1. I agree wholeheartedly with you that getting older is very freeing! You just stop worrying about all the pretentious stuff.

  6. I have never been a risk taker. One of my biggest faults but also one of my biggest assets. Does that even make sense? Maybe it making me a bit boring. But better boring and safe!!

    1. I think both sides of the coin can be both advantageous and detrimental. Perhaps the trick is learning when to be which.

  7. Hello Barbara.
Cutting loose, I'm not quite sure what that means but this much I do know, safety and "cowardice" are not good for one's future. There are things I didn't do earlier in life that have caused a tremendous regret in my "now." My father died when he was 49 years old, I was 22 at the time. I got it into my head that I too as going to die at that age and lived flat out from 22 onward and then I turned 50. What now? Well, for my 50th birthday, my daughter and I drove 700 km to the Storms River bridge where they have the highest bungee jump in the world, 217 meters. And I took the plunge. This is an accomplishment I'm immensely proud of and so glad I did. Next week I'll be going to the Kruger National Park for a 5 day holiday with my daughter, not as brave as jumping off a bridge with an elastic band tied to my ankles but hey, I'm going all the same I'll be taking as many photographs as possible of "The Big Five" and any of the African wild animals we run across, I'll post them on my blog for your enjoyment. About 28 years ago I gave up all my wayward ways and decided to trust in God and Jesus despite what my friends and brother thought about it. To date, I've put up with abuse and mockery and violence all in determination to follow through with what I decided to do, the best thing I ever did. Believing in Jesus and the love of god takes bravery of a very special kind, that to me is cutting loose in a big way. Jesus tells us to stop fretting and cut loose all the time, I agree.
A huge African blessing form Geoff in South Africa.

    1. Absolutely loved your response, Geoff! I myself would never bungee jump. But the trip to the park with you daughter sounds awesome. And you're right, living for Christ is the best way to "cut loose"!
