It's Chilly! Or is it Chili?

Hello, all!  It's already fall!  And it even feels like it here.  We are having very low humidity and cool, refreshing overnight temps hovering around 60 degrees. Feels downright chilly!

And to match that fall feel, I came home and put on a pot of chili.  I never make it from scratch.  Why should I?  With Wick Fowler's I get the same perfect, tasty chili every single time.  I used to always use his original recipe with ALL the red pepper.  But with Pete's stomach problems and children I started using the mild version.  Every bit as full and flavorful as the original but without all the heat.

Occasionally I throw a can of Ranch Style beans into it.  Every now and then I cook a pot of rice to go with it and bake a pone of cornbread as a side dish.  But mostly, we like to keep it all meat and eat it with saltines.  Or do what we are tonight, which is to make frito pie's with it.  Sometimes I use the leftover and box of macaroni and cheese and make chili mac.   I love that stuff!

Well, I'm off to enjoy some it now.  And feed the rest of the herd.

  3. It has dipped into the low 50's here several nights this week. I got out the makings for chili yesterday myself and will probably fix it today or tomorrow. I have to watch what I eat myself due to Ken's and my acid reflux. We only eat small portions and I freeze several small portions for later. Helen

  4. We don't have that up here.  I stick to the McCormick's chili mix.  I like it and has just the right flavor for my chili.  I do like beans in mine too!  I also like to add a small can of tomatoes with green chili's in them!  Adds a little zing!  Linda

  5. It's definately chilly here in Germany!! I've never heard of the one you use before. I'm a big whimp and don't like my chili spicy, it can have a tiny bit of zing, but it can only be a tiny bit or my stomach is in knots.

    Hope you're doing well!!!
I'm back from the states. Did I ever add you as a reader to my journal?

    God Bless

  8. BARBARA,
THAT SOUNDS GOOD. I LIKE CHILI BEST WHEN HUNGRY AND INSTEAD OF COOKING, JUST OPEN A GOOD RELIABLE BRAND AND ENJOY.
BREAKFAST BURRITOS ARE FINE TOO WHEN GOING OUT FOR BREAKFAST AT A CHOICE PLACE.       sam

  9. Sounds good Barbara!  I had some real chili once at a friend's place in Texas.  He made it full strength.  I've NEVER had so much bread with a meal as I did that time!  Took my mouth about 3 days to settle down!  I make my own, but I like mine a little more "sweet" than hot. I know it's not real chili that way, but it's good when it's cold outside.  I add a can of V8 for a little zing.  I can't wait for cool weather to come here.  It's been nice at night- low 70's and acouple times to the high 60's, but looking forward to putting the flannels back on the bed!!!  God Bless! Love Carolyn
